A 5-year-old boy in Utah was pulled over by highway patrol Monday while trying to drive to California. The reason for his great escape? To buy a Lamborghini.
Around noon, a highway patrol trooper was catching up to a speeder on southbound Interstate 15 in Ogden when he saw what he suspected was an impaired driver or a driver experienced a medical emergency. The vehicle was traveling at 32 mph in a 70 mph zone, Buzzfeed News reported.
Dashcam footage, linked down below, shows a light-colored compact SUV driving slowly down the interstate, switching across lanes without using any turn signals.

Lt. Nick Street told Buzzfeed News that the driver had trouble following a curb in the road. After initiating a traffic stop and approaching the vehicle, the trooper was surprised by a driver much younger than the typical teen getting behind the wheel. The trooper discovered a small boy on the verge of tears in the driver’s seat, sitting on the edge with both feet on the brake pedal.
The boy turned off the engine with the help of the trooper and told him that he left home to drive to California because he wanted to buy a Lamborghini.
Utah Highway Patrol tweeted about the incident, writing, “His story is that he left home after an argument with Mom, in which she told him she would not buy him a Lamborghini. He decided he’d take the car and go to California to buy one himself. He might have been short on the purchase amount, as he only had $3 dollars in his wallet.”

Street discussed the story describing in the tweet, stating that the boy’s parents were actually both at work and he was supposed to be supervised by his teen sibling. He had only driven a few miles from home when he was caught.
Possible charges against the boy’s parents are being discussed. Street told Buzzfeed News that based on the boy’s emotional response upon being caught, there’s a “good chance this won’t reoccur.”
