Fifteen-year-old Stella Weston responds to a New York Times op-ed about the impact of COVID on college students.

Stella Weston is 15 years old and lives in New Zealand. She is a fiction writer and has been published in a literary journal called Toitoi five times, she’s read her stories on a platform of national radio, one story has been anthologised and one has been translated into Spanish. Several of her stories have won or been commended in competitions and she won the international NaNoWriMo novel excerpt competition for her age in 2019. She has written book reviews for a national website and was also asked to write a children’s book about mental health which is set to hopefully come out later this year. This will be part of the “I Am Hope” movement, raising funds for children and teenagers to have access to free counseling. While her writing to date has been mainly fiction, as she has become more interested in global issues, she is keen to make a difference through journalism.
