Pregnancy is an exciting time for many couples. However, the process can also feel a bit overwhelming and scary, especially if it’s your first time, or if your pregnancy has been deemed high risk by medical experts. Frequent visits to your doctor’s office can be both expensive and time consuming, as well. Fortunately, there’s a company out there looking to make the pregnancy process safer, and more cost and time effective for new mothers.
How it Works
Babyscripts is an app used by many health practitioners as a conduit between their office and patients’ day-to-day experiences. The app allows them for the monitoring of high-risk patients in their homes, alerting to complications that may otherwise be missed by waiting until mom’s next scheduled doctor’s visit (like preeclampsia). The service also gives lower-risk patients the opportunity to do many of their “check-ins” from the comfort of their own home.
Risk-Based Assessments
Babyscripts provides remote monitoring based on patient risk. Depending on what you and your doctor decide, you may be able to report anything from your weight to your blood pressure using the app (and accompanying tools like a blood pressure cuff) without having to come in for a visit.
The app follows pregnancies from conception through the baby’s first year of life and offers gestationally appropriate content throughout the entire process. Users of the app can also monitor their weight and BMI, and come up with meal-planning ideas based on their trending numbers.
More Personalized Care
Users feel like they’re getting tailored care due to how the app engages them through pop-ups and messages specific to their individualized pregnancy experience. For example, during Hurricane Harvey, doctors’ offices were able to push messages through about office closings, where their patients could find alternative local care in an emergency, and what they should do during an evacuation.
Life-Saving Services
As long as your pregnancy is typical, use of the app will cut down on the number of times you need to visit your doctor’s office for care. If it’s not a typical pregnancy, and you have complications or require more hands-on care, you can expect to see timely interventions, insight on problems and, as a result, more precise care.
Babyscripts provides access to the app in both English and Spanish. The program is HIPPAA compliant and does not sell biomedical data.
Currently, Babyscripts services 45 clients across 23 states. They’ve been in business for over four years, and have managed over 200,000 pregnancies.
You can find out if your provider uses the Babyscripts program in their offices by calling and asking someone at the front desk. If they don’t, you can request they connect with Babyscripts by sending them to their website.
