The devastation of a miscarriage can’t be put into words. In the past, it was treated as a taboo subject, but in recent years, celebrities have used various platforms to share their miscarriage stories. Public figures are sharing their own stories of pregnancy loss to end the stigma and to assure others they aren’t alone in their pregnancy struggles.
Here are some celebrities who have shared their miscarriage stories.
Just this week, model and activist Chrissy Teigen posted about her and husband John Legend’s recent miscarriage.
“We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before,” she wrote in the post. “We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn’t enough.”
She then apologized to the baby, who the couple had named Jack.
“To our Jack – I’m so sorry that the first few moments of your life were met with so many complications, that we couldn’t give you the home you needed to survive. We will always love you.”

In a 2013 interview with Oprah, Beyoncé shared the story of a miscarriage she had before Blue Ivy’s birth. Later in 2019, she talked about how the experience altered her perspective on success, telling Elle magazine, “I began to search for deeper meaning when life began to teach me lessons I didn’t know I needed. Success looks different to me now. I learned that all pain and loss is, in fact, a gift. Having miscarriages taught me that I had to mother myself before I could be a mother to someone else.”
The mother of four shared on Instagram a miscarriage that took place four months into pregnancy — her second miscarriage. She took the opportunity to express her gratitude for the family she already has with Alec Baldwin. “I am surrounded by such love and I feel so fortunate,” she wrote. “Thank you all for listening, for your support, and for sharing your own personal stories. We are stronger together
Country musician Carrie Underwood experienced three miscarriages just after the birth of her firstborn, Isaiah. She had two miscarriages in 2017, and one early on in the following year. In January 2019, Underwood and her hockey star husband Mike Fisher welcomed their second son.
The actress and comedian spoke to Health magazine about her miscarriage. Many people are unaware of the likelihood of miscarriages, just as Wong was in the past. She talked about how she spread the news about her pregnancy when she first found out, only to have to tell people the news of her miscarriage after. She hopes talking about her miscarriage experience, even in her stand-up routines, will shed light on the topic.
Kimberly and James Van Der Beek
James Van Der Beek shared Kimberly’s miscarriage story on Dancing with the Stars. Kimberly had hinted at the loss on her Instagram, writing, “It was a TOUGH weekend. Extra thankful right now to have help with my kids. Keeping these cuties happy as can be while I replenish at home.”
