This week, Channing Tatum is going viral for his latest career move — becoming a children’s book author. The 40-year-old actor, producer, director and Magic Mike dancer announced his first children’s book, titled The One and Only Sparkella. The book is dedicated to his daughter, Everly.
According to the book’s website, it is a “charming ode to self-esteem and the love between a father and daughter.”
“Guys, I don’t know about you but things got a little weird for me in quarantine,” Tatum wrote in his Instagram announcement. “I ended up accidentally locking myself in my 7 year old daughter’s room. And I ended up finding my inner child. So this is what I created for my little girl. From what is, I guess, the little girl in me.”
The book will tell the story of Ella, a lover of glitter, rainbows, and all things sparkly. Sadly, Ella runs into trouble with her classmates on the first day of school. Then, in an attempt to fit in, she tones down her personality and tries to be less “sparkly.” However, with a little help from her dad, she eventually learns the importance of being her true self.
A Dedication to Tatum’s Daughter
The book’s dedication, which was shared exclusively to PEOPLE, reads, “To Everly, the most brilliant magical being that I have ever known. You are my greatest teacher.”
“My only wish is for more time in this life to play in all of the magical realms we have created,” Tatum continues. “This is also for all Dads that might have a little girl … Wear whatever, dance however, and be as magical as you can. Because I promise they will return the love.”
The One and Only Sparkella is illustrated by Kim Barnes and is the first book in a series about Sparkella. The book is set to release on May 4, 2021.
