The Liberty Bell
There’s plenty of false history surrounding the Liberty Bell. The first being that it wasn’t actually called the Liberty Bell until the 1800s. It was previously known as the State House Bell. Its most famous tale tells the story about where its cracks came from; where it cracked after being rung by patriots on July 4, 1776. However, it’s entirely false.
The cracks started happening as early as 1752, and the bell was constantly under maintenance. The crack we see on the monument today was most likely from the 1840s.
