Comic-Con International: San Diego just wrapped for 2019 and Parentology was there to cover all the action. Comics and entertainment were naturally in the spotlight, but we also got some sneak peeks at innovative new technology being used to educate and entertain. We’ll be covering those in the coming week, but for now, let’s focus on some of our favorite family cosplay photos.
Photographer Mari Provencher, who professionally shoots everyone from cosplayers to circus performers and A-list celebrities, covered the action for Parentology. From the Marvel Cinematic Universe to Transformers, these kids and their adult escorts pulled out all the stops for this year. Here are ten favorites from the weekend.

4-5 Cosplay “Bounding”
“Bounding” is a new phenomenon in the cosplay community. It actually originated from Disneybounding (one word) which is a subtler, more fashion-forward way for Disney fans to show their love for the brand. As it was explained in Huffington Post, “Instead of wearing full-on costumes as cosplayers do, Disneybounders dress up in stylish, everyday outfits (known as Disneybounds) that are simply inspired by a particular character.”
This concept has now seeped into the cosplay world, where fans add elements that let you know what character or show they’re honoring, but without the full costume.

In the family cosplay photo above, a mom wore a simple green dress with Marge Simpson wig, and her kids wore hats for Bart and Lisa. Below, a young fan brought her minions along to help her navigate the convention.

Family cosplay was a huge topic at the convention this year, as was cosplay safety and tips parents can use if their child or teen wants to take up the hobby. Video interviews with Parentology’s Editor-in-Chief, Rick Andreoli, will be online for viewing later this week.
