Pumpkin Spice Slime, Spooky Ghost Tales and Zombie Apocalypse, oh my! These are just some of the live online Halloween classes offered by Outschool, an online marketplace providing group video chat courses for kids.
Outschool has over 8,000 live classes for kids of all ages and encourages them to learn through interesting, interactive topics. The classes are taught by qualified teachers and conducted via video chat in small-group settings. Some of them are one-time while others are weekly, held at a variety of times, including evenings and weekends.
But this month, you can take advantage of special Halloween-themed classes that make learning even more fun for kids. Whether it’s math, science, writing, history or art, you’re sure to find a spooky class at Outschool that your little one will love.
Classes range in topic and cater to specific age groups, from early elementary through high school. Like other class offerings, some of these thematic sessions are recurring, held throughout the month, and some are single-class Halloween specials. While many are meant to help kids learn about the holiday, a plethora use the fun occasion to teach subjects in a special way.

If your kid’s interested in Halloween itself, they can take a class like “Bite-Size History: The History of Trick-or-Treat.” It’s a one-time-class, for ages 12 to 18. For the slightly younger crowd, “Halloween History and Symbols” teaches kids 8 to 12 about the history and symbols of the holiday.
For movie mavens, try “Halloween: An Exploration of Horror and Halloween Films.” This class, for ages 13 to 19, will discuss common elements of Halloween-themed films, from family-friendly to true horror.
For the more bookish, “A Night Conversation with a Bird: “The Raven”” might be best. This one for 12-16-year-olds meets weekly for three weeks, investigating the dark, mysterious story of Edgar Allen Poe’s famous poem. “Amazing Ghosts and Ghouls” is great for storytellers, too, exploring 15 ghostly tales from Mexico, the UK, Australia, and the USA. If you’re between 10 and 15 years old, prepare to be spooked!
For the more art-inclined, there are several seasonal art classes, like “Halloween Monster Costumes,” for ages 7 to 12. If math and science are more up your alley, there’s plenty of that, too. “Extracting DNA from Your Halloween Pumpkins” is a fun science experiment for preteens, and can help make use of those leftover pumpkin carving guts. “Halloween Probabilities” uses a kid’s favorite candy to teach probability, sneaking in a math class in a delicious way.

For your budding writer or musician? Try “Spooktacular Music!” to explore the history of four spooky, classical music pieces, or “Writing Spooky!” for a macabre creative outlet. Both classes are for middle-to-high-schoolers and meet on a weekly basis.
And, for those worried about their kids making it home safe from trick-or-treating, the “Halloween Safety Skills” class for kids aged 8-12 is chock full of knowledge about what to do and what not to do to have a fun and safe Halloween night.
