6. More Caring Attitudes
Parental involvement in everything demonstrates a level of care and consideration that is carried on as kids mature. These kids tend to have healthier relationships. In her article for Goodtherapy.org, Vivki Botnick, MA, MS, LMFT writes “As they grow, children who were parented closely often want to remain close.”
Children want to care for others because they were raised with this value. Helicopter parents show up on time. They show appreciation and encourage good manners and responsibility. This continues through adulthood for the kids that have been shown and not just told how to treat others.
QUICK TIP: Are you tired yet? While kids will experience a higher quality of life and be more caring, the helicopter parent tends to sacrifice their own care. Another quality to model is self-care. There’s a reason the airlines tell you to adjust your oxygen mask first. Showing your children that your own boundaries and well-being matters will help them establish the same behavior. The bonus is that a happy and healthy parent raises happy and healthy kids.
