Taylor Swift dropped her surprise album, Folklore, back in July, but a much older song is taking over TikTok. Again. Swift’s hit “Love Story” went viral mid-summer and it’s rising up once again, despite having been released nearly twelve years ago. Why the sudden revival? The latest trend to takeover TikTok features audio that is a remix of the famous track.
The audio, named “Love Song Discolines” after a SoundCloud mix, was originally posted on July 10, according to Junkee. Now, the song has been featured in over one million TikToks.
How to Do the “Love Story” Trend
The trend is fairly simple. One must place their phone on a moving platform (skateboard, car, rolling chair) and have it roll away from them as it records. While it’s rolling, one usually dances to their own routine. A typical attempt looks something like this:
@brandonlangys Alfredo : “When do we come in again?” Me : “Now”😂 ##shuffle ##fyp ##hello @fredooo0 @beerrats

However, like many TikTok viral trends, users are doing just about anything they can to stand out from other participants. Some, like user @kyle_xldworth, are using aerial drones to film their rooftop TikToks.

The user credited with starting off the trend, @ethanishung, even reacted to another user taking part in the trend. He wrote, “When you were just vibing in your room one day and accidentally started one of the biggest trends of 2020.”
