The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is changing this year, thanks to COVID. This got us feeling nostalgic, and after some Google searching we stumbled on a number of old vintage photos from the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. They will have you missing the past (like us) for a variety of reasons.
There’s something to be said about the simplicity of these images. There wasn’t a fixation of smartphones or tech devices at our fingertips, or the drive to create something bigger and better with special effects. People created magic out of the ordinary and were applauded for it.
A perfect example of this can be seen in these old photos. Both adults and children were focused on the larger-than-life display of balloons and high-energy performances that made its way down the streets of New York every Thanksgiving.

This year, the COVID-19 pandemic has changed plenty of things, including holiday celebrations. The 94th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is still scheduled to air on Thanksgiving, but will only be a televised event,
“It will not be the same parade we’re used to; it will be a different kind of event,” New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said. “They are reinventing the event for this moment in history.”
Until things return to normal, take a trip back in time to see photos from past Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parades…
