Many people go viral on TikTok by participating in challenges, while others find themselves going viral for something completely unexpected. For one woman, that moment came when her mother fell through the ceiling while she was in the middle of recording herself singing for a TikTok.
Liz San Millan (@lizjsm_ on TikTok) was recording herself for mere seconds before her ceiling exploded behind her. As loose insulation and drywall fell, a leg shot out of the giant hole. In the caption, Millan wrote, “Live footage of my mom telling me to break a leg.”
As one can imagine, the internet went crazy over the ten-second clip.

The video has racked up more than 60 million views and 40,000 comments. Many users were asking what exactly caused her mom to break through the ceiling and, of course, if her mom was okay now.
Millan posted a couple of follow-up TikToks explaining what had happened and to clarify that her mom was perfectly fine without any injury.
Millan, a college student studying in New York, told Buzzfeed News that she was practicing for upcoming placement auditions for class. While she was practicing “Kindergarten Boyfriend” from Heathers: The Musical, her mother was in the attic above looking for luggage for Millan’s upcoming move.
According to Millan, they can typically walk safely on wooden beams in the attic. However, her mother had tripped and stepped off of the beams. Thus, the viral clip was born.

To answer others questioning about how the ceiling was doing, it sadly wasn’t as scratch-free as her mother was from the ordeal. The hole is very much still in Millan’s parent’s home, despite her dad trying to temporarily solve the issue with some duct tape.
She included a clip of what the ceiling looks like now, which features taped drywall hanging from the room’s ceiling.
