A Union City, California mother was hospitalized after being brutally attacked by her 16-year-old daughter’s bullies.
On January 7, Maria Guadalupe Jimenez and her husband, Eder Rojas, took their daughter to James Logan High School, where they planned to speak with the principal about their daughter’s bullying. However, upon arrival, the couple was attacked by the alleged bullies. Jimenez was hospitalized for two days with multiple injuries, including broken bones.
Rojas recalled to KRON, a news station in Northern California’s East Bay, “They want to hit my daughter, but I cover a lot … they couldn’t get there so they grabbed my wife.”
Per a GoFundMe page set up by a friend of Jimenez, Martha Anaya, “My friend was dragged, punched and even after being unconscious they continue to kick her in the face and head. She has 3 fractures in her nose. All of this happened while her 3-month-old baby was in the car. My friend was recovering from a C-section.”
“I just wanted to talk to the principal, you’d never imagine a kid would hit an adult, I thought we were safe on campus,” Jimenez told KGO ABC7 through a translator.
Jimenez’s and Rojas’ daughter reportedly endured 18 months of bullying both on-campus and online.
Union City Police Department responded to the scene. Police Lt. Steve Mendez told People at least six people were involved. One juvenile was charged with battery and with serious bodily injury. Mendez said there’s a possibility others might be charged as well.
Mendez said it’s unclear who instigated the altercation. “It will be interesting to find out exactly why all the parties met up at the front of the school at the same time. We don’t know if they were confronted or went looking for the suspect before going to the principal’s office. We don’t know who did what and for what reason.”
The school district has reported two Logan High School students were involved in the attack, along with a student’s family and a third individual.
In an email to parents, the school district said, “We are investigating and following up on this incident working directly with the Union City Police Department, and taking disciplinary actions. We believe this incident to be between the two Logan students and does not appear to involve any other Logan students.”
The 16-year-old daughter is reportedly being transferred to another school and out of harm’s way.
