This morning, we were trying to post about our Rugrats giveaway on the Parentology Instagram account. We were able to post in Stories and Reels, but when we tried to add a Post, it would only allow us to select one photo. The icon or toggle to select multiple items in a carousel feature was missing. This led us to ask why Instagram was not letting us post multiple photos anymore.
Was this an Instagram glitch or bug, or did the company remove the feature like when they attempted to remove the “Like” feature back in 2019 to “depressurize Instagram, make it less of a competition,” as Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri said at the Wired 25 Conference.
Well, like most things in social media, it’s a new tech rollout and the folks at Facebook / Instagram decided not to notify users. Fortunately, we did some digging and found a fix for why Instagram is not letting you post multiple photos. The solution, it turns out, was always there even when the icon for selecting multiple photos was there — but most people didn’t know it.
Why Is Instagram Not Letting Me Post Multiple Photos?
First off, you should know that the feature is still available and on all mobile devices. Here’s how to do it.
- Select the “plus” icon up top. This will open the images and videos from your phone.
- At the bottom of your phone’s images and videos, choose whether you want to create a Post, Story, Reels, or Live feed. For the sake of this article, select “Post.”
- Press and hold your finger on the photo or video you want to be the first item in the post.
- After a moment, all of the images/videos on your phone will display radio buttons (those small circles at the top right), allowing you to select multiple photos. See below.
That’s it. You then select them multiple photos or videos you want, enter the text, edit or filter the images and videos just like you always would. Simple.
As stated, this option was available all along, but most people didn’t know it. (We read that info on a couple blogs.) It’s not clear why someone at Instagram removed the dedicated icon to select multiple photos. There has been no official statement from the company at the time of this printing.
