As the Nintendo Switch has become a staple for many people stuck in lockdown, players eagerly wait for the next game release. Luckily for Mario fans everywhere, Nintendo just announced Paper Mario: The Origami King — a brand new game for the Switch console, coming July 17.
The game brings an all-new, paper-crafted adventure to Switch users. Nintendo describes the game’s premise in its announcement:
Mario faces one of his most thrilling challenges yet in Paper Mario: The Origami King when the dangerous King Olly unleashes his plan to fold the entire world. Just when matters couldn’t get worse, he’s bound Princess Peach’s Castle in giant, colored streamers and transported it to a distant mountain. He’s even transformed Bowser’s minions into Folded Soldiers and enlisted them in his treacherous cause.

The gameplay is going to be different than previous Mario games. Nintendo describes it as “a new ring-based battle system that lets you flex your puzzle-solving skills to line up scattered enemies and maximize damage.”
The game is the first of the Paper Mario series to debut on the Switch. The series began on the N64 and introduced a focus on comedy and papercraft art that differed from the main series.
The game is available for pre-order now for $59.99, for both physical and digital copies.
