Parentology is proud to introduce Our Future Now, A National Children’s Campaign podcast produced by Goal 17 Media. The podcast, which will air new episodes each week, focuses on issues that impact today’s children, serving as a roadmap for families to take action and ensure their rights. This week’s episode features #YourWorkersMyFamily.
#YourWorkersMyFamily is a movement launched by Yolian Ogbu and Victory Nwabuf, two 18-year-old college students at the University of Texas. Ogbu and Nwabuf joined forces to fight for hazard pay and personal protective equipment for workers on the frontline — many of whom are beloved family members of the young women.
Nwabuf told Parentology in an interview prior to a weeklong digital movement in early May that her mother, a healthcare provider for children and adults with disabilities, “…risks her life every day to care for people who cannot care for themselves. Even though she is put in a vulnerable position every time she leaves the house, she has not been provided with the proper protection and pay that she deserves by her employers.”
The impetus behind #YourWorkersOurFamily, as simply stated by Nwabuf, “We want to make positive, lasting change for the people who have risked their lives to make our lives easier.”
In this podcast with Our Future Now hosts Jonah Gottlieb and Natalie Mebane, the share what families encounter every day on the frontlines, currently an ongoing vigil with no end in sight.
