Hoffman Academy is an online series of videos designed to help teach piano skills from the comfort of your own home. The basic videos are accessible for free, but learning games, sheet music and personalized practice instructions are available for a monthly or annual fee.
The videos may be used with a traditional piano or a keyboard and “Mr. Hoffman” (also known as Joseph Hoffman, who founded Hoffman Academy with his wife Kelly) even provides direction in how to select your instrument if you don’t yet have one. He’s also the instructor for all the lessons.
The beauty of using Hoffman is that it can be done in your home at your child’s pace. In my case, this meant children of varying ages with some piano background.
With the premium version, kids can create their own avatar and move through different games and lessons. The content is kid-friendly and engaging and the lessons are a great length, so they keep kids’ interest before they get too overwhelmed.
Hoffman Academy is a great resource for families that want to learn to play. The premium version allows for adding additional students for a minimal fee, and each student can progress at their own pace. This lets siblings — and even parents — learn together or separately.

Students with absolutely no prior piano knowledge will have no problem getting started, and if your child has had some piano experience, they can easily move through to an appropriate level for them.
Hoffman Academy provides families with the ability to learn to play the piano at home at a time that’s convenient. It’s a cost-effective alternative that alleviates the need of attending weekly lessons. It also allows students eager to learn to engage as much as they’d like.
Hoffman Academy is a great alternative to traditional piano lessons that allows parents and kids alike to foster a love of music.
