Here’s something that might bring you peace of mind: There are times when even the most successful parent thinks they’re failing miserably.
Surviving parenthood is hard, but we found some parenting secrets could make this exhausting job a little easier to manage.
There Is No Such Thing as a Perfect Parent
We think we know what a “perfect parent” looks like. They are the ones who keep their house spotless, limit screen time for their kids, feed their families nutritious, organic meals, and can even deal with picky eaters. Their kids are perfectly behaved and always well-dressed. They take part in numerous extracurricular activities, are heavily involved in their children’s school activities, and never miss an appointment or meeting. They are the ones who have it all together.
That’s BS — and we know it’s BS — but we still end up comparing ourselves to others.
Stop it. Seriously, enough is enough. And beating yourself up for unrealistic expectations isn’t helping anyone. The next time you start flipping out, say to yourself, “There is no such thing as a perfect parent.” We all have different approaches to parenting and as long as we do what is best for our families, we are being as perfect as possible. If your kids are well-fed, happy, and thriving, then you are succeeding in parenting.
