If you’ve seen the big baby on your social media feed and wondered just how real he is, you’re not the only one. Gavin is a three-year-old who is 43 inches tall — six inches taller than the average three-year-old male.
Gavin (last name withheld), surfaced on TikTok earlier this week when his mother, Kathryn, who goes by “kat.027” on the app, posted a short video of the toddler bouncing on his dad’s back.
Kathryn told Insider she didn’t anticipate the video gaining over 10.5 million views when she downloaded the app on Sunday.
“I was like ‘I’m going to post a couple of Gavin,’ laughing to my husband like ‘I’m going to make Gavin famous.’ I didn’t think it would happen,” she told Insider.
Shortly after, Kathryn shared more clips of Gavin on her TikTok account doing what babies do: lifting his toy truck, rolling gasoline barrels across the grass, and operating a lawn tractor.
Kathryn explains that Gavin was 6 pounds, 15 ounces when he was born. The height, however, can be explained by “big genetics in the family,” she told Insider. Kathryn’s older brothers are 6’1” and 6’2”, and Galen (Gavin’s father) has a brother who is 6’7”.
Giant Baby Critics
While many found Gavin adorable, others have taken to social media with negative comments about the toddler.
One twitter user tweeted: “is anyone else just absolutely REPULSED by this giant baby.”
And, more negative comments about Gavin have followed. Kathryn has seen the comments about sweet Gavin and wishes people would stop being rude, but she doesn’t plan to stop sharing clips of Gavin.
“At first it did [hurt] a little, but we have thick skin, it’s not a big deal to us. People can be mean online, they’re behind a mask,” she told BuzzFeed News. “I think he’s brought a lot of joy to people. I wish I had a mom-cam on myself because I can’t capture all the stuff he does.”
