TikTok users of all ages are banding together to unite for one cause — trolling President Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. CNN reports that Trump said almost 1 million people have requested tickets for his Tulsa rally, which will take place in an auditorium that has nearly 20,000 seats. Of that reported number, there’s allegedly a large crowd with no intention of attending the rally in Oklahoma thanks to TikTok users.
CNN credits 51-year-old grandmother Mary Jo Laupp with leading the TikTok campaign. Last week, Laupp posted a video that encouraged people to go to Trump’s website, register for the rally, and not show up.
Did you know you can make sure there are empty seats at Trump’s rally? ##BLM.♬ original sound – maryjolaupp
“All of those of us that want to see this 19,000 seat auditorium barely filled or completely empty go reserve tickets now and leave him standing alone there on stage,” Laupp said in the video.
The rally was originally planned to take place on Juneteenth — a holiday that celebrates the end of slavery in the US. After facing backlash for the decision to schedule the rally on the holiday and on the same site as the Tulsa Massacre, the campaign moved it to the following day.
Laupp’s TikTok went viral on the platform, inspiring others to make TikToks to document themselves registering for the event with the intention of not showing up.
it’s even worse that u only need a phone number to get two tickets ##greenscreen♬ tExAs GUYSSS – meganbos_
An Empty Auditorium? It’s Unlikely
Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale tweeted out that as of Sunday, they had passed 800,000 tickets registered. Despite all these TikTok users’ efforts to reserve seats to leave them empty, the auditorium will likely be full for the rally.
Erin Perrine, principal deputy communications director for the Trump campaign, told CNN, “Leftists do this all the time. They think if they sign up for tickets that will leave empty seats. Not the case at all. Always way more ticket requests than seats available at a rally. All they are doing is giving us access to their contact information.”
