There are some super exciting moments in a parent’s life, especially when it comes to the first time they speak specific words. Naturally, “mommy” and “daddy” are two of the biggies so it’s no surprise that comedian/actor Amy Schumer got really excited when her son said, “Dad” for the first time. What she and her friends didn’t expect was that their reaction would make her son cry.
The Setup
Schumer was making a video for her husband, chef and farmer Chris Fischer. In it, she says they miss him and wish him a good day. As a friend films the moment, Schumer asks her son Gene if he can say, “Dad.” And, to her and everyone else’s surprise, he does.
This isn’t a mumble of babyspeak, or one of those, “He didn’t really say it, but it’s cute so we’ll go along with it…” moments. Gene literally looks up at the camera, says, “Dad” and smiles.
The look on Schumer’s face in the image above, says it all. She and everyone else is so surprised and excited they start applauding. But Gene gets a little overwhelmed from it all and immediately starts crying.
“This video was clearly a surprise to us,” she wrote on the Instagram post. “Getting to experience these first moments with my son makes me feel so lucky.” The video was posted yesterday and so far has nearly 6.5 million views.
