A police officer was attacked by a mob of teens yesterday as he tried to break up the group from loitering in a public park. The footage was captured on video, and the horrifying scene quickly spread over social media.
The Incident
The incident took place in Surrey, England. While some accounts are claiming upwards of 30 people were in the public park breaking local social distancing laws, witnesses reported that the assault involved around 10 male youths who were drinking alcohol. Locals called the police and a lone officer, whose name has not yet been released, approached them.
“While dispersing the group, a 15year-old boy was placed under arrest for a public order offense,” Surrey Police later stated. “Members of the group then turned on the officer, attacking him and causing minor injuries to his wrist and head.”
The footage itself, posted below, is a bit more horrifying. As the officer holds one of the people to the ground, the others jump him. They can be seen kicking the officer and dragging him on the grass. The youth yell at the officer, taunting him as they attack.
Some bystanders walk away or watch in horror, while another witness can be heard saying in sympathy, “He’s just doing his job.” Meanwhile, the girls filming the attack can be heard laughing in the background.
According to The Sun, three teen boys aged 14, 15 and 18, were later arrested on suspicion of assault. The investigation of the other youth is still ongoing.
