We often think of TikTok as a young person’s game, but in truth, netizens of all ages can find ways to have fun with the platform. Case in point: This dad who went viral with a laid-back clip of him skateboarding, drinking Ocean Spray cranberry juice, and enjoying a classic Fleetwood Mac tune.
Since launching late last month, the TikTok video featuring Nathan Apodaca, who goes by Dogg Face on TikTok, has blown up. It even garnered the attention of Fleetwood Mac frontman, Mick Fleetwood. See how it began, how Fleetwood Mac responded, and the amazing gifts Ocean Spray gave Apodaca.
How the Fleetwood Mac TikTok Trend Began
The clip came courtesy of Wyoming dad Nathan Apodaca, who goes by Dogg Face on TikTok. Distractify reports that Apodaca’s daughters introduced him to TikTok. From there, an internet celebrity was born.
Apodaca’s TikTok now features hundreds of clips of him dancing, lip-synching, and generally trying to spread good vibes. His eclectic musical taste encompasses everything from ’80s R&B to ’00s pop rock.
Since he started it, Apodaca’s TikTok has gained over two million followers, with his clips earning more than 15 million likes. However, his biggest hit yet is a video he posted this week with the caption “Morning vibe.”
That’s Apodaca riding his skateboard down the road and drinking cranberry juice to the dulcet tones of Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams.” The ’70s hit’s smooth bass and subdued vocals perfectly match Apodaca’s tranquil expression as he glides down the street, briefly turning to the camera to lip-synch.
The endearing clip has since gained over 24 million views and the admiration of internet users everywhere.
I will never be as cool as this guy, skateboarding, drinking juice straight out of the bottle, and vibing to Fleetwood Mac.— SassyMétisChick ❤️ 🇨🇦❤️ (@SassyCanadianCk) September 25, 2020
“Thank you @doggface208 for this amazing video that made my night. Stay cool brother,” said one Twitter user. Another said, “Love this video!! The most chill feeling one I have seen!!! Always makes me smile.”
I can only aspire to be the same level of chill as that dude on the skateboard listening to Fleetwood Mac— jazmin ❁ (@_heyimjazmin) September 27, 2020
Word of Apodaca’s video even reached as far as Fleetwood Mac itself, who shared in the internet’s adoration. The band’s official Twitter account shared the clip with the message, “We love this!”
Then, over the weekend, Fleetwood Mac frontman, Mick Fleetwood, shot his own version of the video. The 73-year-old’s first video features him riding on what way or may not be a skateboard, drinking from a bottle of cranberry juice and singing along with Stevie Nicks.
In response to his viral success, Apodaca took to TikTok once again to thank his online fans for their love and support.
“I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart, from Dogg Face, me and my family, to all of you guys,” Apodaca said. “Reach for the stars!”
WARNING: The following clip — while extremely heartwarming — contains strong language.
Ocean Spray Gives Truck
Not only has Apodaca caught the attention of Fleetwood Mac, but he’s also caught the eye of the folks at Ocean Spray, the brand of juice he was drinking. Tom Hayes, CEO of Ocean Spray, posted his own TikTok following the “Dreams” trend as he skated down the street sipping Ocean Spray.
In his latest social media activity, Apodaca showed up the moment that Ocean Spray showed up at his door to give him keys to a new car.
Of course, the back of the car was fully stocked with cranberry juice.
