Familiar faces are returning to TV on September 13, courtesy of Cartoonito, Cartoon Network’s preschool block in the United States. Among them is Thomas the Tank Engine in the new 2D animated series Thomas & Friends: All Engines Go. We’ve got the new trailer, plus our friends at Cartoon Network have supplied Parentology with a cool new exclusive promo clip from Thomas & Friends: All Engines Go, as well as some exciting new podcast info for parents.
About the Series
Thomas & Friends: All Engines Go follows a younger Thomas and his group of locomotive buddies going on brand new adventures for kids to enjoy. Thomas is striving to be the Number One Tank Engine, but it’s happening through trial and error so that young viewers can experience his journey and learn lessons along the way.
What’s clear in the trailer below is that the series is super fun. While previous computer-generated versions were great, this hand-drawn animation offers a greater range of character expressiveness, more physical comedy and music, and core characters that are now kids themselves and voiced by young actors. The upbeat and colorful show is crafted to appeal to contemporary audiences’ sensibilities while maintaining Thomas’ core message about the value of friendship.
“After lots of careful (and fun) research on the show’s two to four-year-old viewers, we recommended that Thomas & Friends: All Engines Go content incorporate 26 Life Lessons,” notes Dr. Deb Weber, Director, Early Childhood Development Research, Fisher-Price. But why 26 lessons? “Well, this is an homage to the original Railway Series, a set of 26 books by the Rev. W. Awdry, which first introduced children to Thomas and his friends in 1945. The 26 Life Lessons include a range of skills addressing the three pillars of early childhood development: social-emotional, cognitive and physical skills.”
While the lessons are there, they don’t beat viewers over the head. Likewise, combined with the new Thomas & Friends Storytime podcast (see below), parents have even more tools at hand to help with their kids’ development.

Thomas & Friends Storytime Podcast
Chugging in tandem with the newly reimagined animated series, the Thomas & Friends Storytime podcast launched in May 2020 as part of the Thomas & Friends 75th Anniversary celebrations. It’s a huge hit with families, and if you haven’t listened in yet, you’re missing out.
The series features special origin stories of favorite characters, magical fairy tales, and much more. Each story is crafted with Thomas fans in mind, with the preschool audience being the focal point. The stories also use the same voice artists from the Thomas & Friends television series to bring life to the characters. However, each 10-11 minute tale is paced by a narrator to help paint vivid illustrations of Thomas’ world in the ears and minds of the young audience.
