A man who was demonstrating in support of President Trump is facing child abuse charges after attacking a young girl. Sixty-seven-year-old Norbert Logsdon was waving a flag bearing the president’s name when he was upset by heckling from a passing car. Shocking footage of the incident then shows the Florida resident becoming violent with the mother and 13-year-old girl inside.
The confrontation took place on Wednesday, August 16, as mom Crystal Ledoux drove her daughter to dinner. Ledoux told local news that she was making a U-turn in a parking lot when she noticed Logsdon waving the Trump flag and raising his middle finger to passing cars.
In response, Ledoux said, she and her daughter raised their own middle fingers at Logsdon and shouted “Biden 2020.”
In cell phone footage provided by Ledoux, an enraged Logsdon chases after her car as she drives away. After catching up to them, Logsdon then jabs his flagpole through the open passenger window as Ledoux’s daughter screams.
“I was scared out of my mind, because my daughter was getting hit in the face, and I couldn’t tell where, but I knew she was getting hit with a pole,” Ledoux said. “So I started rolling the window up, and I couldn’t go forward because there was a car in front of me.”
When deputies arrived on the scene, Ledoux provided them with Logsdon’s license plate number. Police then used the information to track down his home address, where they reportedly arrested him without incident.
According to the arrest report, Logsdon’s flagpole struck the 13-year-old in the right side of her face and chest. “I did observe redness to the victim’s right face,” a deputy wrote in the report.
While Logsdon has since been released from custody, he now faces felony child abuse charges in connection with the incident. Reached for comment by Action News Jax, Logsdon reportedly referred them to his attorney before giving the name of a “fictional” law firm.
Meanwhile, Ledoux said the incident made her more concerned about the country’s political climate.
“I’m not going anywhere near protesters to be honest with you, because it scared us so bad someone reacted like that,” she said. “I did see on social media that people are taking this to extremes — as far as the Trump and Biden supporters, because this isn’t the only incident where I’ve heard of injuries. It’s crazy the way the election is turning this year, to be honest with you.”
