A family is still reeling after an incident in Las Vegas where a woman accosted them with racial slurs and allegedly punched their 6-year-old son.
The incident occurred over the July 4th holiday weekend, the boy’s mother told AsAmNews. She had been visiting a shopping center with her husband, son, and daughter.
“My husband was walking with my son, holding his hand,” said the mother, who asked the outlet to identify her by her TikTok handle, @uhmmajo. “I was with my two-year-old daughter pushing her in a stroller.”
It was then that a strange woman came up from behind the family and punched the son in the neck, according to the mother’s account. A yelling match ensued between the woman, later identified as Shelly Ann Hill, and the father as he shielded his son from her.
“She was yelling things like, ‘I know what you people do. You people eat your children. It’s you’re fault,'” the mother said.
As Hill tried to leave the scene, the mother followed her, pulling out her phone to record as security guards arrived.
“You can see security approaching in the video, but there was also security coming up behind me,” she said. “In that instance, I knew it was better to get a video of her face as evidence versus opting for violence since security was already in the picture.”
Mall security reportedly escorted Hill from the mall following the incident. However, after footage of the confrontation went viral, police arrested the 57-year-old on July 10. She now faces charges of battery and committing a hate or bias crime, reports the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Meanwhile, the son reportedly sustained no injuries in the attack. However, his mother says he is shaken up mentally, as “he has never seen us that angry before and hopes we never get that angry with him.”
“It startled him so much to see us that way — I can’t imagine how traumatized he would be if we actually got physically violent,” the mother added.
