With the rise of social media fame, gender reveals have grown increasingly popular. And, more gender reveals means more failed ones, ranging from cringe-worthy to downright hilarious. From kids crying over unwanted results to painful party favor malfunctions, these gender reveal fails for 2020 will make these folks more infamous than famous.
We know this is intended to be a funny post, but the first one is the most obvious, and the worst: the gender reveal that sparked the El Dorado Fire in San Bernardino County.
While officials haven’t released surveillance footage of the incident due to ongoing investigations, they described the recording to CNN. In it, a couple and several children can be seen walking into the grass while another person appears to light a device. As the device ignites, the family could be seen “scrambling” and grabbing water bottles to try to stop the growing fire. Sadly, it wasn’t enough.
As of this writing, the fire is 66% contained and roughly 19,000 acres have burned. No charges have been filed against the family yet.
Tom and Kristin Cressotti wanted the reveal of their baby’s gender to be spectacular, so they bought smoke bombs designed to shoot 30 feet into the air. From the photo above, you can tell that it didn’t work out so well.
But this isn’t the only explosion to come from these events…
The Internet Explodes
When Tank the hippo was used in a gender reveal, the whole internet exploded claiming it was animal abuse.
Turns out, Capital of Texas Zoo officials knew the gender reveal was happening and helped facilitate it. Once the , the online screaming started, the zoo director came forward saying that feeding gelatin to zoo animals is not uncommon or harmful.
In a statement, mom Bridgitte Joseph talked about the couple’s fertility journey while assuring worried animal lovers that Tank, the gender reveal hippo, was fed a watermelon filled with safe, organic jello, and he “was more than happy to have the treat.”
Some people want to save money on their gender reveal, so they rig one up themselves. Huge mistake.
Pamela Kreimeyer, 56, died when the homemade explosive device, which was supposed to shoot colored powder in the air, instead exploded and a piece of metal struck Kreimeyer in the head, killing her instantly.
“This is a reminder that anytime someone mixes these things there is a high potential for serious injury or death,” Sheriff Jason Sandholdt said in its statement. “Please do not take these unnecessary risks.”
Another Risky Incidents
In Texas last September, expecting parents wanted to elevate their gender reveal — sky-high. The plane did the reveal by dumping approximately 350 gallons of pink water. However, the craft got too low, causing it to stall and crash upside down.
No one was seriously injured, which is fortunate, but surprising: a Federal Aviation Administration inspector reported that there were two people aboard the single-seat plane, which doesn’t meet regulations.
Moving on from risking life and limb, to cakes and kids gone wrong…
Crying Over Cake
While the gender of this reveal’s baby-to-be-born stayed no mystery, maybe it should have—considering his sister’s tearful reaction. All it took was halving the petit cake placed in front of her. What exactly about this gender reveal ignited such a tear-filled tantrum? The world may never know.
Balloon Bursting Bust
Not everybody can get behind the sound of a balloon popping. But what about the glitz and glam of glitter?
This little boy was less than thrilled after his family popped the gender reveal balloon right on top of him. Rather than celebrating, the boy cringed, screamed, and cried as the blue glitter fell and scattered onto his shoulders. Glamourous as glitter can be, this gender reveal proves that it is, sadly, not for everyone.
But wait… What if someone doesn’t WANT that baby…?
No Girls Allowed
Here’s one of the most dramatic gender reveal fails 2020!
This expecting family’s son made no effort to hide his feelings about the result of their gender reveal. As the balloon’s pieces of pink confetti made their way to the floor, he quickly followed suit. Upset that his newest sibling would be a girl, he expressed his anger by balling his hands into fists, violently pounding them on the floor, and repeatedly screaming “NO!” A perfectly successful gender reveal ruined by a tantrum caught on tape.
Only one of these two sisters was excited to learn their newest addition to the family would be a baby boy. While the girl pictured on the right was thrilled to see the blue frosting inside her cake, her sister on the left was reduced to tears. Even the cake in front of her couldn’t cheer her up.
Denial Ain’t Just a River
This expecting family’s daughter wasn’t the most ecstatic to see the results of her family’s gender reveal. In fact, she was at first in stubborn denial. “It’s a girl,” she insisted, though the blue Erlenmeyer flask in front of her suggests otherwise. Once she finally embraced the truth and accepted defeat, the tears began to flow.
Not everyone in this family thought the result of their gender reveal was celebration-worthy. With three sisters and one brother, this family’s only son was banking on the hope that their incoming baby would break the streak of girls and be his little brother. But the pink, cream-filled cupcake destroyed any last hopes he had. Knowing that he’d be sorely outnumbered, he couldn’t help but show his disappointment at the gender reveal.
Setting up a gender reveal is an important job. You’d just HATE it if they messed up…
These expecting parents were appalled and outraged to find out that the company in charge of their gender reveal forgot the most important part: the one balloon that reveals the baby’s gender. You can see the shock written all over the expectant mother’s face. Their guests, however, took the mistake a little more lightly, erupting in laughter. Despite the lightheartedness, the parents were far from pleased. They didn’t seem to find it very funny that their baby’s gender still remained a mystery.
Icing on the Cake
Looks like the baker behind this cake was torn between pink and blue for the color scheme. Too bad their indecision left the family who ordered it torn between what gender their baby was. While this may be another gender reveal fail, at least the cake looks delicious — everyone seemed to have a bite.
Wait, So… Which One Is It?
At first, these expecting parents released their powder poppers, which turned out to be pink. “It’s a girl!” those watching cheered in celebration.
But, shortly after, the family members next to them released their powder poppers, which were… blue? It didn’t take long for this gender reveal party to go from celebratory to confusing.
It’s a… What?
This family’s tasty gender reveal idea may have backfired. The two pepperoni pizzas they ordered definitely spell “It’s a,” but the word created on the final sausage pizza is completely indecipherable. Together, the three pizzas are supposed to say “It’s a boy.” Perhaps if you squint, you can see the word spelled out in sausage. A failed gender reveal, but a tasty one nonetheless.
For 2020, the gender reveal fail sometimes happens because the “reveal” just doesn’t want to cooperate…
